About Councilmember Trayon White, Sr.

Councilmember Trayon White, Sr. is a Washington D.C. native and proud honors graduate of Ballou Senior High School. Councilmember White is a proud father, community advocate, and humanitarian. Councilmember White furthered his education at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Over the years, Councilmember White has founded many community programs and non-profit organizations. Bold Brothas for Christ, which Councilmember White founded as an undergraduate student, provided spiritual support to young men in college; Helping Inner City Kids Succeed, Inc. (HICKS Inc.) is an organization that Mr. White created in 2007 and provides youth engagement and prevention activities for youth in Ward 8; Manpower DC was created in 2015 and serves as an organization that provides leadership training to young men in Ward 8. Additionally, Councilmember White continues to support and advise a number of programs and activities that focus on career placement, character development, work ethic, life skill development, civic engagement, spiritual development, and critical thinking.

Councilmember White used his athletic prowess by serving as a coach for the No. 11 little league football team for the Boys & Girls Club. He also joined the East of the River Clergy Police Community Partnership and served as an Outreach Worker. Councilmember White served as a supervisor in the Roving Leaders program, a program of the Department of Recreations, and worked with some of the most challenging youth in Washington DC. Most recently, he has also worked in the Office of the Attorney General and served as a Community Development Specialist. Through his community engagement work, Councilmember White has impacted the lives of over 1,000 youth and families.

In 2011, Councilmember White won a special election for the Ward 8 school board representative position. He was re-elected in 2012. As a school board representative, Councilmember White focused heavily on parent engagement and created parent organizations to assist more families with supporting their children. He also fought vigorously to keep public schools in Ward 8 open by organizing protests and rallies with parents and students alike.

Councilmember White represents, provides support and empowers people who suffer from the social impact of crime, violence, drug abuse, educational disparity and poverty. He is known for his common sense approach and business acumen to combat social ills in Ward 8. More than anything, Councilmember White prides himself on being a servant leader and an example for young people, a mentor for many, and a support for all youth in Ward 8 and across Washington DC.
